BIO

I love being involved with all the arts.  I began to journal when I joined the airlines at the age of 20.  And as you can see, I continue to write, updating my web site, often adding current events, new travel stories and information that I hope others might find interesting.   I finished writing my autobiography.  Finding My Wings starts in my earliest childhood and continues though most of my life.  Little of my past would be expected from those who know me now.  Filled with abuse, adventures, insights and learning experiences,  I don't think anyone would could say my life has been boring.   I sent my story into several book publishing companies and sure enough, it was accepted and is in the editing mode as I write this.  It should be out for print by the end of this year.   In the mean time, I also self published a children's book for the holidays- Christmas Countdown-Santa's Side Of The Story.  Already viewed as a keepsake, it is NEW each year and delights children of all ages.  It can purchased from me or at Amazon.com

Singing is probably my greatest joy.  Maybe not my best asset but good enough to be a member of a chorus that excels in the education of good vocal skills, performances and competitions.  Sweet Adeline’s is all about the education of the Barbershop style of four part harmony.  Since Covid closed things down and since I moved here to San Diego, I quickly joined new ,mixed chorus and started singing, doing shows and getting involved again making new friends who share the art of performing four part a capella harmony.  LOVE IT.

Although I never took art classes in school, I have always had an artistic flair with crafts or in decorating, etc.   It was natural that....someday, I would try painting.   Since retiring here on the beautiful Central Coast,  I have found the time to do just that.   And what a grand experience it has been.   I took classes with an instructor for several years.  I have zoomed fast forward in my education of art and she has become a lifelong friend.  Many of the subjects of my first paintings were done in class sharing my instructor’s ideas or good photographs of which I am grateful.  But even with similar subjects, I immediately saw things from my own point of view and painted with my own style and color choices.  Even so, I still consider myself a beginner with only ten years of experimenting with paint.  And it's pure excitement when I get that beautiful "accident" which then creates a one-of-a-kind work of art.  I prefer painting with oils as I think they give a rich and lustrous effect on a canvas and then becomes an elegant work of art no matter what the subject.  Oddly they look almost old fashioned in today's world of water color and photography.  My work often is done around traditional subjects using bold strokes and always lots of color in an effort to create vibrancy and movement.  Recently I am leaning more and more toward Impressionist strokes and blurred lines.  I can see my progression as an artist and am branching out using larger canvases that enhance the abstract styles of art.  I’ve displayed my art at several Art Shows and  I’ve also been in a couple art Art Gallery in Morro Bay and won the People’s Choice for a painting displayed at the Cliff’s Resort.  To me, the experience of finding new ways to create a work of art is limitless.  It has been a joyful journey expressing myself with painting.   I am both humbled and delighted when others like my work and choose to have it hanging in their home.

Since moving here to San Diego I have not had time to get back into painting.  A few people who have seen my art have asked me to paint something for them, so I keep busy doing commissioned pieces every now and then.

Oh and then again are my travel stories.  They are not so much about what I did but more about how I felt about the places I've visited. Ever since becoming a flight attendant, I've traveled.   I continue to find traveling a wonderful way to learn about different cultures and ideologies.  It's an exciting way to connect with the world.  I like to say that traveling is like reading a book using all five senses.  Always makes me come home wanting more.  I hope you click on a few of my travel logs and find them enjoyable.  Please contact me anytime.  Highflyer@charter.net
